What is dial in?

Dial-in refers to the process of accessing a computer system or network remotely through a phone connection, typically using a modem.

Dial-in was a common way to access the internet in the early days of the World Wide Web, before the widespread availability of broadband internet. Users would dial a phone number associated with their ISP (Internet Service Provider) and connect to the internet using a modem.

Dial-in can also be used to remotely connect to a corporate network or server. This is often used by employees who need to work remotely or access resources while on the go.

However, dial-in is now less commonly used due to the availability of faster and more reliable internet connections, such as broadband and fiber-optic.
